Brian,
All I've shot so far have been snaps around the house, but so far so good.
There's a lot of dialouge on the photo forums about oil spots and mal-adjusted autofocus, but there's also a whole lot more dialouge from folks who love the camera. It feels substantial in my hands compared to the D50, and the knob and dial controls expose the things I fumbled through the menus to set during my Chama weekend, yay. And, you just can't beat that price.
I'm going to shoot some measurement tests early next year, to evaluate the focus and resolution with my 18-200 zoom. And, since I really bought the camera to get better dynamic range, I'm evaluating NEF file workflow alternatives. My two alternatives right now are 1)darktable, which has a non-destructive flow I like, and 2) Nikon's ViewNX, which came with the camera. Either will export 16-bit TIFFs, which will carry enough information to GIMP or Photoshop for creative munging.
