While technically not on today's C&TS there was also a water tank at La Jara, between Alamosa and Antonito.
Because of the RGS, Durango was called the NG Capitol of the World by Lucious Beebe or some other scribe. I always thought the nerve center was more in Alamosa. Thats where the shops were! Also it was where the standard gauge interchanged with the NG(especially after the valley line was gone. At the end you had the line from Walsenburg, the Sg line to Creede through the valley, and the dual gauge to Antonito. Before it was removed you also had the NG line to Salida. So while Durango had 4 lines at one time, so did Alamosa.
While it was great the C&TS and D&S were saved, we lost a lot when the shops and other facilities in Alamosa were torn down. Not sure when that was but it was in the 70's or 80's I think.
Just wonder if the C&TS had gotten the shops in Alamosa and the three-rail was still in. Imagine if they could be rebuilding engines there today, and making part of it a museum perhaps. You could still run trains from Antonito to Chama, but you could do heavy repairs in Alamosa, and some repairs in Chama.
I know over the years it was side to see the demise of Alamosa. Coming from the east it was always the first place we would visit after that long 1400 mile trip that took 3 days in the old days.
