Thanks to George Reese (aka Geode) of the once-upon-a-time Irish band Claddagh,*
here are the lyrics to last Sunday's no-longer-timely sunrise alarm-clock music
:Bridie Murphy and the Kamikaze Pilot
by Colm Gallagher
Bridie Murphy lived on the island of Oahu
In the convent of the Holy Cross.
Bridie was a nun; she wasn’t having any fun
She was thinking of kissing it off.
St. Ann, St. Ann, won’t you send me down a man
So I can get the hell out of here
I don’t care if he’s tall, if he’s short or if he’s stout
Just as long as he is not queer.
Yasihiri Yashimoto was a kamikaze pilot
From the land of the Rising Sun.
He got in to his bomber on the Seventh of December
In Nineteen Forty-one.
He bombed the Arizona shouting “Tora, Tora Tora”
Then the thought he’d better take his own life.
Says he, “I’m going to kill myself, I’d better try to kill myself.”
He’d just had a row with his wife.
He crashed through the bramble and he crashed through the briar
And he crashed through the convent wall
And he landed in the middle of Bridie’s little bedroom
And Bridie Murphy started to ball,
“It’s a man! It’s a man! St. Ann, St. Ann,
I knew you wouldn’t let me down
With his lovely little noes and his lovely little chin
And his propeller blade swinging around.
Bridie Murphy married Yasihiri Yashimoto
And they had a little baby gossoon
His left eye was round and his right eye was slanted
So you’d think that he was winking when he wasn’t.
* Here they are more than twenty years ago on the occasion of a visit to the Fillmore & Western. IIRC, that's Geode in the cab of #51
