If the "Pineapple" is on the C&TS then I wonder why they don't use her to pull the tour trains when the fire hazard shuts down the coal burners on Forestry Land.
They could pull the train with a steamer for a few miles, provide a couple of photo-ops, then hook up the Pineapple for the rest of the tour through Forestry Land. The WP&YR has proven that most people don't mind [or don't care] if the train is pulled by a diesel. I believe most folks would be quite understanding if they knew the reason for the switch was the fire hazard. They'd still get to ride behind a steamer, and a chance to take steam loco photos.
Besides, #19 isn't just any diesel. For one she's got character, not just a powered boxcar with windows on one end. Secondly she's got a rich history of her own, as one of the first diesel locos, and proud service for the war effort during WW2. I think most folks would love to read Bob's story about getting her from Hawaii to Colorado. Give the folks a simple one page, three fold historical brochure about the train they're riding and most will be pleased as can be.
Perhaps some of the C&TS experts can provide more information about this. Positive discussion please; I think we've all had enough negativity for a while.
