Interesting discussion on draft gear and great photos Jason and Bob. Nice restorations as well, that must be satisfying work and is certainly appreciated by the rest of us.
Is it fair to say that with the advent of automatic couplers the D&RG replaced the link and pin on their rolling stock (at the turn of the century or shortly thereafter) with the Miner draft gear that we see in the 1920's rebuilds and still existing today? Or was there a later generation of Miner draft gear installed in the 20's rebuilds, along with metal strikers on most cars?
Exceptions of course are the Cardwell draft gear on most (but not all) highsides and the draft gear on the rebuilt 6200 flats, among a few other exceptions I'm sure.
