In fact there 46 public narrow gauge railroads in Switzerland:
- 1 with 1200 mm gauge, a rack railroad;
- 38 with 1000 mm gauge;
- 8 with 800 mm gauge, all rack railroads;
- 1 with 750 mm gauge, the Waldenburgerbahn.
All of these electrified except for the Brienzer Rothorn Bahn, but many have steam engines for special trains and diesel engines for shunting, works trains, etc... All steam workings are listed on [
www.voev.ch] for the upcoming year, with additional special workings on [
www.voev.ch] under "Dampf" 1-2 months in advance.
This does not take into account a small number of museum and tourist railroads, mainly with gauges of 1000 mm and 600 mm.
And there are also meter gauge electric urban tramway systems in Zurich, Basel, Bern and Geneva.
