I claim no vast knowledge of these things.

I have read the writings of several who know far more than I that the tree presently called "Jukes Tree" is the second and some say perhaps the third tree to be known as such.

"Jukes" for those of more recent vintage, was Mr. Fred Jukes, a D&RG employee who became known for his photographs of long ago. Many of Fred Jukes' photos included the famed tree north of the Rio Chama.

Mr. Jukes and his photographs were the subjects of a chapter in one of The Colorado Railroad Museum's annuals.
