When we ran fan trips to Big Horn and back, we regularly met the westbound and eastbound passengers at Toltec. We even managed to a couple of moving meets where the extra ducked into the clear and eased down through the siding and the passenger went by without the extra having to stop. We thought that was pretty big time cool.
I did meets at Big Horn and Sublette with photo freights too. Sublette was pretty scary as it had 52lb rail on it. If we had time, we'd back into Sublette so we didn't have to run the engine the length of the siding. I recall getting there late once and the eastbound was already there sitting between the switches and we crept very slowly through. I every time I felt a pop or a groan I thought we hit the ties.
Eureka ducked into the clear at Los Pinos once. I think we did a meet a Lava too.
The Friend's Moonlight train used to leave early enough to make a meet with the westbound at Lobato.
I recall a charter freight with a meet at Cresco also.
So, it looks like through the years we made use of just about every siding. The only siding that we never made use of was the long siding at Cumbres from the crossover out to Tanglefoot Curve, and it was designated "out of service".
