Well Jim, not sure what they were, but I assumed(bad thing to do) they were 50 cals. They may in fact be 30 cals as you said. I haven't look up any detailed info on the aircraft nor the one I shot to be honest with you. As I said I did get a shot of the guns being retracted from inside the back area of the fuselage which was interesting. There was little room left for a small gunner!!! The guy demonstrating was smallish and he was having a tough time moving around.
I just remember the Movie Midway with Charlton Heston and his rear-facing gunner was shot I believe before he did his bomb run. Then of course he crash landed on the carrier anyway!
Next time you are up this way stop by and we can look at some vids!!
