D&RGW Headlights in the 1960's

April 22, 2014 08:51PM
I don't know about FRA regulations, but I saw quite a few D&RGW narrow gauge freights in the 1960's as a young lad and I remember the headlights being on day or night. My dad would take us out to see narrow gauge trains or we would watch for them when traveling between Alamosa and Antonito. I remember we would see the headlite far down the track and that was our first clue a train was coming. It would be either a narrow gauge steam train or a D&RGW Geep. Of course we hoped for the narrow gauge steamer and a trace of far-off smoke usually confirmed our hope. Also saw trains west of Chama-- also with headlights as I recall.
