If the guy was close enough to kick, he was too damned close. Of course you will argue with me, but after over three decades of working on the railroad, I feel that I know a bit more about how close is safe than you do.
If the guy was close enough to have the Conductor kick him out of the way from a moving train, then he was too damned close. Period.
Maybe the Conductor should have let this idiot get killed and said nothing, but no, he saw danger and kicked the guy out of the way.
Now the Railfans such as yourself are second guessing him. I see nothing hostile about the Conductor's action. It's safety first wherever you work, whether it's Peru or the US. If somebody is putting themselves in harms way, you use any method at hand to move them out of it.
You obviously didn't try the physical gymnastics that I assigned you. If you are too lazy to try it, then try sitting on the step of a moving locomotive, holding on to the handrails and trying to kick anything over 18" away.
You can fix a lot of things, but you can't fix stupid. You also can't fix people who are defending the stupid.
