In the re-assembly of the engine, the main driver was put in backwards, so the engine ran backwards in relation to the Johnson bar position. This offended someone who figured if the eccentric arms were swapped on the links, that would solve the problem. It did make the engine run in the direction the reverse lever was placed but it really messed with the valve events and it did not run well at all.
I think Mr.Braden told me he was fireman on it's one venture beyond Chama. The air pump didn't work and the whatever braking was needed was done with reverse lever and caboose hand brake.
