That's right, the 12 was purchased from the Arcata & Mad River RR to replace the 4 which had been running at least into 1955. I was told that the boiler needed more work than they would afford, so a replacement was obtained.
The 12 kept her number that she had both with A&MRRR and before that,
nearby Hammond Lbr. She came to AZ with saddle tanks but those were removed and she then trailed a tender behind her. There were 3 tenders to go with the two steamers in the mid to late 50's, one of which was the smaller slope-backed one that was frequently behind the 2-8-0.
