At the end of January 31,1942 there were only 16 6000-series
flat cars in REVENUE service and by February 28, 1942 they had
all been retired and sold. File 5080 shows a total of 31 n.g.
cars being removed from the roster at that time. Those being
3 reefers, 10 box, and 18 flats. Oddly the specific AFE is not
shown on the Valuation Cards. None were retained by the D&RGW
and converted to work service.
Cars retired were:
6001 6041
6004 6056
6009 6057
6013 6058
6023 6064 (06064)
6032 6069
6033 6077
6040 6095
Of the above listed cars, 6064 seems to have the most interesting history. Built in 4-1887 it was rebuilt in 3-1926 under AFE 2577.
On 8-25-1931 it is shown converted to work flat and renumbered
06064. Retired from work equipment 4-1938 under AFE T-6863,
it was returned to revenue service (same date) under AFE T-6864.
As other 6000-series flats had been retired in 1934 and 1938,
it might be worth while to check the Acct. 53 Completition Report
Ledger to see if there is some reason why this particular car
was returned to general freight service.
