Hi Stephen,
Thank you for the additional information! I'm surprised how little information there is regarding the Cabin Branch Mine and its narrow gauge railroad. I'm also surprised that nobody in the Prince William County Historical Society or the NPS that owns the mine site is interested in these photos.
I have a total of 23 photos of this operation. Included are many more photos of the mining operation (with interior views of the mill) and photos of Possum Point showing the railroad and barge storage houses for shipment of the processed ore. I guess if it's not Civil War or Colonial stuff the region does not care about their industrial history - sad to say.
Do you remember where you saw the scrapyard photo in Woodbridge? I would like to see that photo.
Thanks again for the information; I will look for this book. For me it's been fun researching these photos and learning about a different part of the country. My wife is from this area so she has been involved in the research as well.
Interesting note on the Climax locomotive - the lettering on the tender says "Abing??” with some of the lettering unreadable. This must have been a second hand loco from the Abingdon, VA area. I found nothing in The Climax Locomotive book about this locomotive.
I bought this photo album because it contained many narrow gauge Colorado railroad and Colorado mining photos from 1900-1920's - mostly C&S and mines from the Clear Creek area. Hand written notes on the album indicate the photographer was a mine engineer that traveled all over the country. I'm glad he had a camera.
Thanks,
Lowell Ross
