My scenario is as follows (everyone take a deep breath; I'm not saying this should have happened ... it is just an interesting thought experiment):
In 1969, business is booming on the EBT, but the DRGW is trying very hard to get out of the NG business (other than their tourist line between Durango and Silverton). New locomotives are very expensive, so EBT buys all of DRGW's K-28 locomotives (we don't need to justify this - it is merely a component of the scenario). Of course, as a steam locomotive is used, it has to make regular trips through the shops for heavy maintenance, and on the first trip for each K-28, its air-pump is moved from the front to the side ("where it belongs").
This leads me to wonder about a couple of questions:
(1) how would DRGW fans react to this "sacrilege"?
(2) would thinking about this scenario help DRGW fans to understand how others of us feel about changes made to the 4960?
