It seems to me rather than the railroad taking the risk on sponsoring railfan oriented events that that would be a good role for the Friends. That would be a good way for them to show off their handywork restoring the equipment, be a significant form of historic interpretation, and perhaps even be a bit of a fund raiser. They have done this in the past to showcase some specific projects like the pile driver, they sponsored a rotary trip, and they have run some not very authentic photo freights. But so far as I know they have never sponsored anything that attempts to recreate regular freight operations, such as the 1992 Craft trips, or the Lerro/Farrails charters last October. Seems to me photo charters like those could be the center piece of an interesting history event on the C&TS that would attract a mix of fans, historians, modelers, and the general public.
