Do you happen to have access to the AFE for bridge 472A? The number is hard to read from the valuation map but it looks like 1386. The last digit is questionable though. The span is shown as 128' at that time. My measurement of the piers in the aerials results in about 122' which is reasonably close to the val map.
The notes I am looking at do not reference an AFE number and my copy of the valuation map is in hiding. Also currently do not have access to that AFE.
However, whatever work was done would have been covered by an AFE. Possibly the AFE 1386 refers to work done during either 1911, or 1912 or both.
Here is some of what occurred regarding various work done on bridge 472A
Original bride was constructed in 1905, a 128’ through span on 2 piers 128’ apart and 10 panel pile approach. Appears this bridge was washed out during 1911.
November 1911:
Constructed crib on east end 47’ long 14’ wide and 3’ high. Constructed crib 8’ wide 30’ long and 3’ to 5’ deep. (Apparently west end) Constructed bridge over river on frame bents in place of span using floor beams of span for stringers. Erected 8 frame bents to carry bridge over river, making 5 – 22’ and 2 10’ openings account washout.
December 1911 repairs account washout (I believe this means they were still working on repairs)
January 1912 surfaced and lined
January 1912 drove 2 – 5 pile bents
February 1912 repairs to temporary bridge and erecting 128’ Howe Truss account washout
March 1912 erecting 128’ span. Distance between piers not shown.
April 1912 completed above and removed false work.
May 1934 put in center pier. Built up center of piers 1 and 3 with concrete. Removed old wood span and placed 2 – 61 foot girders, new ties and guard rails on girders.
February 1937 replace center pier and two deck plate girders. No other details shown. Possibly what was done at this time is what now shows up on aerials.
