You are welcome Roger.
I am a big fan of crows. I have been feeding my crow unit here for several years. I have a little table set up for them about 6 ft. high. That cannot be any closer than about 25 ft. from the house because crows are very wary. But from that close, in good sun light, I can really see their mannerisms. Crows are smart. You can just see the wheels turning in their heads.
I have five in the unit right now. Usually this time of the year a couple more auxilliary crows will join the unit to gear up for making babies.
The one thing that crows can't stand is an owl. Owls are killing machines and they can occassionally take baby crows out of the nest at night. All crows know this, and if they find an owl sleeping in a tree, they will destroy the owl with insults while keeping about two feet away for safety. One crow will walk on a limb toward the owl while agressively tearing little branches off the tree and angrily tossing them down to the ground just to show the owl who he is dealing with. They want the owl to take off, and once he does, all the crows can join in hot pursuit and direct the owl out of crow country. Once in flight, most birds seem to run away from any bird that chases them, no matter what size.
One of the strange things crows do is make the rattle call. It almost sounds like an amplified, electronic signal of some sort.
