Narrow gauge rail sizes and stub turnouts

I am trying to determine what was the largest size of rail that the prototoype used when building stub turnouts. I am building some narrow gauge turnouts, and I am trying to determine approproate sizes for point tunouts vs. stub turnouts. While I'm asking, were stubs used for dual gauge turnouts? I'm sure there are alwys going to be exceptions on the obscure lines in faraway places. I'm interesteed in what someone may find in Southwest Colorado.
