When I was the manager of a local hobby shop if I asked a teenager what kind of a railcar a gondola was they had no idea, if I asked a 6 year old if they knew what it was and what it was used for they KNEW and if you hitched up to the wrong engine they would let ya' know! 
All of this because of the great Thomas shows and how well they portray the characters and what place they play on a working railroad. Russ
