Short answer is 5. All the locomotives under the C&TS ownership have the potential to run again. What might make the most sense is either the 492 or 497. There will come a time when the current roster will need to be taken out of service so major repairs etc can be done. Having a few of the K-37's in operation will allow this to happen. All of the idle K-37's on the property have less boiler time than any of the operating K-36's as they have been idle since the 60's-except the 497 which last ran in 2002. So it could be possible the existing K-37's have a better overall boiler than the K-36's at this point.
