Hello yet again -
As noted elsewhere, an early-morning sneak attack by Chief Mochte- (or Monte-) Zoo-Mah interfered
with my being available to capture a unique view of the sun cresting the Sangre de Cristo mountains
behind the supports of the water tank at Lava and simultaneously glinting off the side of engine #487
(IIRC, no-one was standing within twenty feet of either side of me), but a short while later I was back
in action and able to at least approximately duplicate a shot that probably 60 other people have been
sharing on various art- and rail-photo sites
:
I would gladly have passed up this next so-so run-by, and the later one at m.p. 305, in order to replicate the previous day's shot at the s-curve at m.p. 295.5 - just before the lower loop of the Whiplash - but with two locomotives (see [
ngdiscussion.net] yet again)
:
Chief Mochte-Zoo-Mah's heinous henchman Yup-Te-Chuk't ambushed me near m.p. 305 and succeeded in putting me out of action for the rest of the morning, but after lunch my suggestion to Alan and Pete for a run-by near m.p. 317.5 was accepted, and the train was backed down accordingly. The sun was high, and the results less than spectacular as seen in the top photo below. Other than the second engine being somewhat visible in the background, Cascade Trestle was pretty much a same-old, same-old duplicate of previous years, so I haven't worked on any of those pics. A while later I wisely followed Pete to the upper side of the tracks near m.p. 322 for the second shot, below
:
These next two were taken from the same location adjacent to Pete as #487 came closer and closer
:
The sun had dropped behind the hills as the train turned north along the river; this shot has been brightened considerably
:
A link to exquisite photos from the subsequent beautifully-lit evening run-by at Apache crossing and several other locations has been posted by Kevin Madore at [
ngdiscussion.net], and a couple of my own shots can be found farther down on that same thread. My own shots from the last day of the five that are different enough from everyone else's to be worth posting can be found on the "Chaos at Cumbres" thread starting at [
ngdiscussion.net]
...
Otherwise, "That's All, Folks!"
