I don't know whether they were purchased or leased, and whether they were all UPD&G or also DL&G or other UP lines, but there's no question they were in use. This photo shows seven UP cars and two C&N cars very early on the C&N just below Ox Bow:

I won't argue with this opinion. The cars do appear to be along the UPD&G (originally GSL&P) alignment. I know that the the GSL&P grade is a few feet below the C&N grade in the area of the depot (from excavations a few years ago when a Sunset resident had a septic tank installed), and the ground does appear to be lower where the boxcars are. I don't remember any photos of boxcars on the ground in Sunset before the C&N, but there aren't many photos of Sunset in the later years of the UPD&G.
