Thanks Bruce! That was a very detailed and complex answer which I like! Mike, I haven't the slightest care as to how people think or feel about me. Why should the Jennie K be restored? Well it's been stated above multiple times that Knotts needs a back up engine and while the Jennie K isn't as powerful as that of 340 and 41, it's better than nothing. It's not my engine so obviously it's not my decision on what becomes of the locomotive. If CP decides to fund the project then I wish them the best of luck, if not, I won't shed a tear, I won't be throwing any chairs, I won't say "but." I don't think that every engine should be restored. However I feel that if a locomotive goes to the right place, like Knotts, and if funds can be raised then what's stopping them? People like me aren't needed to fund these restoration projects, portions of ticket sales, fundraisers, special events, THAT'S what needs to be the source of funds. Just cause I can't contribute doesn't mean the restoration can't go on. While yes the 3 reasons for funds are controlled by the amount of people who visit, people stepping in and donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to these projects isn't needed to keep them going. I don't care how long it takes, just as long as it gets done. I love donating when I can but not many of us have loads of money to give up.
