John,
You made the right decision to paint OY gray after the rebuild as this was the accurate color scheme.
During the 1998 sessions when OY was repainted boxcar red, several of the Friends questioned and openly contested the accuracy of the proposed color. At that time I was answered, to paraphrase, "Now everyone can be happy, we've got one gray rotary and one red rotary".
