I thought the Class 47 engines were re-boilered in the 1912-16 period like the Class 60 & the 1881 Class 70 engines. Replacing iron with steel and all that.
Unlike the Class 56 & 45 1/2 engines which remained iron and were scrapped in 1916-17...

ps Hooper isn't far enough, have to go at least to the wye at Moffat to get the true feel of the Alamosa Branch - probably the only rebuildable section that would make the Santa Fe branch north of Taos Jct attractive by comparison!
