Here's a shot of 402 taken in 1982.
Apparently the EFDTC decided they wanted a standard appearance, so they installed front mounted bells. Note that the engine was originally numbered 406 but by 1984 was renumbered 207 into the class formerly occupied by the Mallets. Also notice that there is no ringer arm or air ringer line. The bell is purely decorative!
Here's a shot of 403, also taken in 1982, with some of the now standard EFDTC look. By 1984 the tail rods will be removed from the cylinders and the tenders given two axle cast trucks in place of the fabricated three axle trucks they came with.
I don't have a photo of a clean 200 class, but the 200's and 300's shared the same paint scheme under all that working class dirt. Here's the 306 shortly after coming out of the shop in September of 1984.
You would think it would be sunny all the time in Brazil, but about 80% of my EFDTC photos were on cloudy or rainy days!
