The Eureka Nevada Ry made its living hauling low grade silver-lead ore that was used as flux at US Smelting's Midvale, UT smelter. In 1936-37 the price of silver spiked and large scale mining returned to Ruby Hill. In 1937 the EN's Porter 2-8-0, #11 flues had expired and also was in need of a new firebox. C.B. Sexton thought it was cheaper to buy the Uintah #12, which was in first class shape, than to overhaul their #11.
