IMHO, of course -
But over the course of six and 1/6 thousand posts in the past seven years or so,
ISTM using a few of these common abbreviations has saved me several hundred
keystrokes, and thereby postponed carpool tunnel syndrome by at least a week
or two
...
OTOH,
FAR more offensive IMHO is the
post+
steam+
era introduction of the 'plus' sign into the Whyte (sp?) classification system for steam locomotives. IIRC when Alleghenys were in regular service they were referred to as the "2-6-6-6" type, and Cab-forwards were "4-8-8-2's". "4-6
+6-4" brings to mind a double+ten+wheeler Beyer+Garratt, and NOT an articulated. I dropped my subscription to
TRAINS magazine several years ago when this
disgusting re+write of history was adopted by the editor.

p.s. Please don't take the above personally, Ed - IIRC, this is only the second time I have deliberately used the double-birdie "smiley", and it's not directed at you but at that idiot
TRAINS editor Goldberg or whatever his name was.
