473 definitely had its shotgun stack in 1961. 478 got its diamond stack (different from 476's) in 1957 or 1958. (Check out Shaugnessey's photos in Narrow Gauge in the Rockies). It's certainly possible that 473 got its stack in 1962--all 3 K-28's definitely had them in 1963. As for the DPL photos, I caution that I have found a number of date errors on their site. Both Otto Perry and Bob Richardson were meticulous in their captioning of photos. That said, when that number of photos were catalogued by DPL, errors crept in.
As an aside, the Rio Grande Land project was ongoing for a couple of years. My father was the electrical contractor on the General Palmer House and the Grande Palace remodels during, as I recall, late 1963 and 1964.
