That must be a
large firebox.
IIRC The D&RGW narrow gauge 490's didn't take that many No. 4 scoops per fire to keep em hot...About nine or ten at a time was it...Left front corner, Right front corner,twisting the scoop to let the draft help scatter it, put one in the center up front, then left side, right side, both with a twist, one in the middle, left back corner, right back corner, bounce one in the middle. Ride until the stack cleared, then hit it again.
The 480's could be kept hot with about six "per fire" if you did it
right....Left front corner, right front corner, left side, right side
left back corner, right back corner, put one or two more wherever if it needed it.
Ride & watch ahead until the stack cleared, then again on the next right hand curve.
The 470's were similar but took a bit less.
