I think the South African Garratts were bigger than the garratt pictured below by another poster.
The GMAM class at the end was about the biggest. But there were 20th Class Garratts in Zimbabwe that might have been bigger.The both were 4-8-2+2-8-4. I am no expert, but for total length I would also look at the meter gauge South African 25 class Condensors with those huge tenders for recyling water. They were 4-8-4's with 60 inch drivers. Imagine taking that engine proportionally into our standard gauge. By the way to South Africa, 3 foot 6 is STANDARD gauge.

below photo is I beleive a 15th class Garratt. In Zimbabwe the 15th class is a 4-6-4+4-6-4. These were high stepper dual service engines. Nothing like a double hudson!!!! My brother shot
