Don't forget about those NG Mallets in Mexico that ran from Mexico City to Pueblo. Pictures have been posted on this board...nice looking locos. Wish they had them when I was there in 1963, but at least I saw a roundhouse full of steam(2-8-2's and 2-8-0's). The ride from Pueblo to Mexico city took all day, whereas the autovia ride the day before took something like 3 hours.
That all-day steam ride was a real experience, as we had lots of local flavor riding the train, including soldiers and indians. Passed several freights on this 100% steam line. I fondly remember women getting hot water with their buckets from the boilers at station stops
and have some 120 shots someplace. Was a neat line, similar to the D&RGW in many respects.
