Well OSHA didn't kill the engineer cap and even though I wear baseball style caps today THAT'S
what killed the engineer cap.I can remember when I lived in the LA area,Pasadena to be exact in 1960.I was 5 years old and dad took me to get an engineer cap.He didn't go to the local hobby shop he went to J.C. Penneys and I got a "Payday Cap".
I can still remember the stacks of overalls and little glass compartments of pleated engineer caps, blue and striped and I still have that cap.
The last J.C. Penneys cap I bought and that was scarce, was in Downey ,California in 1975 a Big Mac striped and I still have that cap.J.C. Penneys caps were some of the best because of the
visor guard. No other cap had this design.Lee was the other great. The last vestage of railroad clothing was the A.B. Payne Co. in East L.A.
They even sold pig skin switchmans mittins.I sure miss those days.Mr. payne closed his store in 1980,he died shortly after that.I sure miss those old cloths!!Lee work cloths was Mr.Paynes line.
