Been tryin' to follow all the back'n'forth. Hard for us not-quite-yet-retired yet old-ish guys.
I prefer late September to late October for a whole bunch of reasons. I'm NOT a fair weather only shooter. I love cold weather steam'n'smoke shoots, and I've traveled through, and put up with, some pretty nasty conditions over the years without blinking an eye (well, almost without blinking an eye) to get "the shot". The best steam photo
I think I've ever taken was shot at about -20F with a nasty wind blowing after a long drive in dicey conditions.
Like the UP, I can handle it.
But... There's no such thing as too many fall color shots, and more importantly, by late October on the C&TS you're definitely moving into "be careful what you wish for" territory where logistics could get complicated. Remember, it's not what
you would be willing to deal with, it's what 30+ "you's" and the RR can reasonably handle.
Regardless, I would almost definitely be "in" for either date, the good lord willin' and the creek don't rise.
