I wish to make a statement that the above crack was not in anyway intended a slur to the boys over on the "Silverton Branch". I believe Mr Harper and his crew are doing an admirable job over there and have come a very long way in recognizing and preserving thier heritage. They have certainly come a long way from the previous owers who seemed to duck and dodge thier history at every turn.
An yes, I realize Mickey D's predates the D&S by a couple years.
My jibe was directed at the few who firmly believe the "preservation at any and all costs" attitude. The fact is in order for the C&TS to prosper (let alone simply survive), it must grow. In order to grow and accomodate the patronage needed for it to proper and become financially viable, changes are a must an compromises will have to be made.
And Eric, my friend, you are EXACTLY right. The needs of one and one's family far outwiegh what we would personally love to do with our lives.
That's one of the main reasons I now live in a much larger metro area now. Thankfully, my situation has settled down to where I can return to the narrow gauge in the summer months.
I'd like to change my politically incorrect comment to: "I don't want no KFC, Burger King, Carl's Jr, White Castle, (insert your favorite fast food joint here) along my narrie gage...."
