It's funny - I had just been having an email conversation with a friend about how difficult it can be to shoot at Phantom, even under the almost ideal conditions we had last spring, and the previous fall when I'd been there on a 315 trip.
If you went with 1 or 2 other people rather than a fair sized group it would help but then, of course, you wouldn't have a nice, timely westbound charter would you? John, I think you've got it. A charter with a bit more time planned here would help.
I don't mind climbing, but that "rock" - very loose volcanic breccia, mostly - makes for spectacular formations but nasty, risky climbing. It goes when you least expect it, and I admit to shaking my head at the handful who went up that day.
The results were obviously worth it!
My take on the same 2 locations:
Lava Tank with green trimmings
Phantom - ducking Pete's (and the Nathans' if I recall) rocks
