Rich,
According to Karl Schaeffer, who I would never dispute, the 361 ci GMC engines were originally put in WWII half tracks. The story was that the 361 GMCs came out of military 6x6s. According to several sources the 6x6s had 270 C.I. GMC motors. Our Goose 7 had the same 361 motor as all the "big" Geese did. It was deemed unrebuildable when the CRRM received it in 1985. A 56 Chevy 261 C.I. six out of a light truck was substituted along with it's 4 speed transmission. The 361 GMC with it's 5 speed is now a spare for Goose 5 in Dolores.
