The Last revenue train ran in late 51 and the RGS was officially dead on May 8 1952. The 20, and the 74 along with a number of other equipmet was sold at public auction on July 24 1952. So the RGS was done before the 20 and 74 were sold.
However YES they would NOT have been there in 1953 to start any kind of operation.
Is/was there any room for a why in or just outside of Ouray?
So in 1953 what was still there that could have been used.
455, 461, Geese 2,3,6,7, reefer 2101, caboose 0400, coach 0260, and 257(0256 and 01885 could have been retrieved) All of this could have been used. Two locos is more that enough for summer operations of a 10 mile line.(With or without a turning facility) The geese could be used very effectively, for summer and off season use and could be turned in Ouray.(3 and 7 would be used on the regular goose runs. 2 and 6 only for special runs with an extra fee)
42 was in Durango, and was very worn out. But she (Like today) would make a great static display inside the roundhouse.
