Dennis, As far as I can tell, the first photo of #278 with the new tender was taken in July of 1939. By then four K-27's had been scrapped. #450, 451, and 457 had been stored on the Alamosa rip track since the early thirties and scrapped in the late thirties. #460 was in service until January of 1939. It seems possible and likely that the tender from #460 was in the best condition, and may have gone to the #278. Regards, Matt
