I doubt they would send an old T-12 tank to the Chicago RR Fair. The DRGW was quite capable of making new tender tanks. If you dig into the NG Pictorials, you will find lots of C class engines with those nice "modern" looking tanks, some of which were scrapped in the 30's.
I found a shot of 268 in full "C.C. & T.C." livery in Dec '50 with a small air tank. The next shot in Aug '52 it has the larger air tank.
