Actually, the full name of the gremlin inhabiting hot metal print shops - was "Etaoin Shirdlu". He occasionally saw his name in print, much to the chagrin of the operator who accidentally cast the letters when clearing the keys on a Linotype machine.
Linotype was made by Mergenthaler (.i.e Baldwin, if we want to use the steam engine analogy). The competing casting machines were made by Harris Intertype (ALCO in steam locomotive terms) and were branded as "Monotype."
Glad to hear that there are still a few of the clacking old girls around outside of those "stuffed and mounted" examples in the lobbies of publishing houses.
