Thanks Fritz for the explanation of the printing process. It is neat to hear that you still use a Linotype machine and letterpress. I imagine the working examples are getting rare. When I was a kid one of the popular field trips for school kids was a visit to our small town news paper and it was fascinating to watch the Linotype machine operate as well as the press. By the time I was a senior in High School and took journalism (publication of the school newspaper carried out at the local newspaper) as an elective, the paper had just switched to offset printing. The old equipment was still in place, but we were trained to put the paper together using the new equipment and photography processes. One of my fellow students in the class took an after school job busting up and wrecking out the old letterpress. I don't think I could have brought myself to wield a sledge hammer to what I considered a beautiful piece of working machinery.
