I'm thinking that a portion of the roof came down in 1979. The rest of the roof was removed in the interest of safety. This further weakened the structure to the point where it was unsafe to turn helper engines anymore. At that point it was torn down from the tail switch to the west end, leaving only a small portion over the tail. In 1981 or so a couple more sections fell. These sections were later restored by the FOCTS.
