When we got a shop tour of the D&S several years ago, the master mechanic showed us many boxes that he said contained patterns for the engines. He said when they needed something cast they sent the pattern to a foundry in Salt Lake City who did the work. I never asked what all they had patterns of. He said they came from the Rio Grande.
