Additionally as I recall one of the big problems was that the valve cage was broken during the tumble into the pit thus the cylinder saddle was not salvageable. Of course it all could have been repaired if there had been sufficient demand for steam locomotives. At the time however the handwriting was on the wall for the third division and I don't think the "pipe boom" had gotten rolling. On top of that the Rio Grande was dieselizing as fast as they could.
