On the same subject, a truck driver friend told me this tale. In April 1976, just after the start-up of Conrail, he was dropping a trailer at his terminal in Oaks, Pa. at 3:30 a.m. (adjacent to a former Penn Central branch line) He noticed a train approaching at a very slow pace, and as he headed for the exit, the train stopped. A man climbed off the engine and walked over to him to ask, "Buddy, where in hell are we?"
