If UP 3985 pulled up to the Antonito tank on the Cumbres & Toltec, the tank would have enough water to fill the tender. However, in addition to the tender, the steamer had two water cars with in on its trip to Denver Tuesday. The tender holds 25,000 gallons of water. Each water car holds 28,000 gallons, making for 81,000 gallons to be boiled by 6,450 gallons of No. 5 fuel oil.
If my sources are correct the Antonito tank only holds 50,000 gallons.
