smoking smileyWhile Jeff Taylor is correct that the chain was shortened so that when the lever is placed forward and out of the way, the blades are still up, I am pretty sure that this has not always been the case.

I have been here so long my memory could be faulty, but I seem to remember that the blades were functional when I started in 1996, and that the chain was shortened with the Cummins engine installation for the very safety reason cited by Jeff. If I am remembering correctly, then guests just stepped around the lever.
